Our Mission

Our mission at Smart Living Vancouver is to educate, spread awareness, and invite others to participate in developing housing solutions to Vancouver’s housing crisis.

Educate

By educating ourselves with the basic knowledge and vocabulary used by the decision makers of the city, we can properly convey the housing solutions that we would like to see. At Smart Living Vancouver, we have blogs that feature the bare basics that any average Joe can understand and apply to their message.

Spreading Awareness

One thing that has personally bothered me about Vancouver is the lack of awareness in the younger generations that we have a serious problem. We have a complicated problem and by not properly talking about implementing solutions we become our own worst enemy. People need to be aware of how this issue affects them and more importantly, they need to be aware of where they can voice their concerns.

Spreading awareness can be as easy as re-tweeting what someone else has tweeted on Twitter. Social Media is a strong tool to be using in this fight for housing solutions. We have a very active twitter page. Other methods of spreading awareness include putting up posters and talking to people one-on-one.

Inviting Others to Participate

Making calls to action and to invite other people to participate is what will make a difference in the fight for housing for all. The blogs written on this website, especially the ones featuring Open Houses, all list convenient contact details for any average Joe to reach out and make their voice heard. Right now the government is being given a distorted image of NIMBY’s that represent the minority of people just because these NIMBY’s have a louder voice.

I’m not saying that we need to get a protest going (yet), I’m just saying that everyone needs to do their part in pushing for smarter housing solutions. And you don’t have to do much: getting the word out or writing into the decision makers is putting action to your thoughts.
